ER/MD-003, Dealul Veverița, 408m
September 21, 2025: SOTA activation of the hill "Dealul Veverița" (ER/MD-003), 408m, locator: KN47bi.
The Veverita hill (ER/MD-003) is the third highest peak in our country, at 408m altitude (although the GPS showed me 411m). In October 2024 it was activated by 2 radio amateurs from Poland, so my activation was the second. Access can be from the nearby Veverita village, but I chose to come from the south, from Bahmut village. From the northeastern edge of Bahmut I drove a kilometer and a half up the road that leads to Leordoaia. The road is not so good, but still accessible, no large potholes. I parked the car at the edge of the forest and then walked up to ER/MD-003, at a distance of 1.5 km, a nice 20 minutes trail. Veverita summit doesn't look like a classic hill because it's flat and stretches over a beautiful wheat field, at the edge of the forest. I chose a spot under a tree, in the shade and set up the antenna (vertical with a 5m whip and 10 radial wires on the grass). I used a Yaesu FT-818 transceiver with a small amplifier, and I worked for an hour. The antenna is a classic telescopic vertical with a 5m whip and 10 radial wires on the ground. At first I made 9 QSOs in FT4/FT8 (at 14W) and then had 17 contacts in SSB (at 25W). I even got two S2S, summit-to-summit, with 2 activators in the mountains - in Italy and in Switzerland.
