ER1SKI - Summits on the Air in Moldova

ER/MD-015, Dealul Podișu (Pepeni), 319m

August 23, 2026:  Mario, DL4MFM, who is visiting Moldova, accompanied me on this activation. We decided to go to the North-West part of the country, where many hills are, and to do SOTA and GMA activations.

On the highway R6, from the village of Prepelita, we headed to the Pepeni village nearby. There is a central unit of the anti-hail service there, right on Dealul Podisu. Up on this hill there is a fairly large plateau, so we could easily install a longer antenna here - an end-fed full size antenna for 40m, supported by 3 masts. The wire of this antenna is divided into several linked segments, which can be easily disconnected, therefore it is a multiband antenna for 15/17/20/30/40m. Transceiver: Yaesu FT-818ND with a small amplifier (about 15W power).

In total, we drove about 400km in 2 days and walked about 22 thousand steps. We installed 3 different antennas, on 6 hills. Despite the 35-degree heat, during this weekend we managed to activate all 6 summits (4 SOTA + 2 GMA), and none of them was activated before. I've never been to any of them, so we explored everything on the go. I made a total of 68 QSOs, most of them in SSB, and most of Mario's QSOs were in CW.

Other activated SOTA summits were: ER/MD-024, ER/MD-025, and ER/MD-010.
