ER/MD-017, Dealul Florițoaia, 314m
November 1, 2025: SOTA activation of the hill "Dealul Florițoaia" (ER/MD-017), 314m, locator: KN37xe.
This summit is 8 km away from ER/MD-021, by car. In the photo I marked
with a red square the highest point, where I went, which is higher than
the cell phone tower there. The access road by car was not very good, so
I parked in a suitable place and then walked up the hill about 800m to
reach the final point.
The view from the top was fantastic!
I quickly made 8 QSOs on HF, on the 12m band (including with the USA!), operating QRP with the QDX digital transceiver and a small amplifier (10W power), using a Chinese Pac-12 classic vertical with a 5.6m whip and 10 radial wires. Then I turned on the HT on VHF, as being close to Iasi I expected the hams from there to hear me well, which actually happened. First I caught a very weak signal from Ukraine and I managed to talk to Andrii from the Carpathian area (at a whooping 285km distance!), after which I talked to 4 radio amateurs from Iasi, with a very strong signal, as if they were right next to me. I suggested that we also test UHF and it worked perfectly! I used a Kenwood TH-F7 at 5W power and a long telescopic antenna.
